Power company sends threatening letter to street lamp.

In a small town in New Zealand, one of the power company’s computer programs sent a letter addressed to a street lamp, threatening to cut off its electricity supply unless certain information was supplied by the occupier.

The postman delivered it to the nearest house, the address of which was also on the letter.


The only saving grace is that the software chose to send the letter to just one street lamp and not all of them.

Six days on, Meridian, the energy company, have produced a short video of a representative apologising to the lamp-post for the mix-up and offering it a chocolate. Nice that they can show a sense of humour.
