The spectre of plagiarism haunting Europe

July 25, 2012

A news article today on the BBC website Plagiarism, probably of limited interest except to academics and scientific researchers.

However, I was immediately reminded of the words of a Tom Lehrer song:

“… Plagiarize,
Let no one else’s work evade your eyes,
Remember why the good Lord made your eyes,
So don’t shade your eyes,
But plagiarize, plagiarize, plagiarize –
Only be sure always to call it please ‘research’.”

Possibly one of the most sublime examples of rhyme in the English language and so appropriate in this instance.

If you’ve not heard any of his songs, or maybe just not this one, try this YouTube link: song. His Periodic Table song is, rightly, famous.
