Olympic Torch close-up in Crowmarsh Gifford

July 10, 2012

We stayed overnight with Sue’s sister so we’d be there early, before the road was closed to traffic. The torch was due to pass their front door at 8:43 a.m. but, of course, it was late. It was also our brother-in-law’s birthday and they’d invited loads of friends and relatives to their place to watch the procession and to stay for a cooked breakfast afterwards.

The weather wasn’t too bad early on. Lots of photos on Flickr, as always, and just one here.

The runner here is  Major Fiona Grist, who has served in the British Army for many years and has been on tours of duty in Bosnia and Afghanistan in her role as a nurse.

Breakfast afterwards was great; full marks to the chefs. Lots of Buck’s Fizz etc to go with it, too. Some had to leave early for work but many of us stayed on. Despite the mostly appalling weather, the bubbly, coffee, croissants and chatter lasted until 3 p.m.  An excellent day.

I have a few video clips, too, to process.
