Winter tyres increases car insurance premiums! (UK)

December 11, 2010

Why is anyone surprised. In my experience they’ll use anything to increase premiums. Would they reduce the premium in the spring when normal tyres are put back on?
Anyway, it seems they’re being told a safety feature like this should not be penalised.

If you fit anything non-standard that increases the value of the car you could claim in the event of it being written off then they want to take that into account. That’s fair enough, I suppose – provided they do actually take it into account.

On the other hand, the value of my car has halved in the 6 years I’ve owned it. Have my premiums dropped accordingly? Of course not.

Have you ever heard of an insurance company going bust? Of course not.

Do their senior employees get handsome bonuses? What do you think?
