Snow and chaos on the roads – TV reporters

Just a brief rant:

In some areas the Police are warning people not to drive  unless their journey is essential. The roads in some areas are blocked by snow with giant traffic jams and drivers spending hours and hours in their cars. So, bearing in mind that employers have a duty of care to their employees, WHY do television companies send reporters out in their cars  to find these traffic jams, become part of them and then stand at the side of the road in -12C to tell us how bad it is ?????

A few seconds of film from a helicopter will show us much, much more and a studio report is fine.

It’s not just the snow. Why do we need a reporter, film and sound crew standing in the rain outside a closed courthouse to tell what went on there several hours before ?  Their discomfort and the costs involved add precisely nothing to the report.
