100 mph speed limit

June 17, 2007

The UK nanny state strikes again. Some MP, who clearly doesn’t enjoy driving much, wants all cars on the road to be made incapable of more than 100 mph.

Well, that’s a good way to kill off the only remaining truly British cars.

What about owners who want to take their cars on the German autobahns or to a trackday?

Does he have any idea how many cars on the road do not have engine management computers or digital signal speedometers and that, without them, it’s virtually impossible to regulate the car’s top speed?

And does he realise how easy it is to circumvent any such limiter?

Finally, has he the figures for accidents caused by cars exceeding 100 mph compared to the number of accidents happening at lower speeds?

Joined up thinking? – not.
