Damn computerised cars

September 21, 2006

The positive battery terminal connector on my GTO came loose on Monday so it wouldn’t start.

Not difficult to diagnose or fix.

A few minutes to reset the clock and retune my radio stations.

But – the seatbelt warning light is on all the time the ignition is on and the buzzers to warn when the key has been left in or the lights left on have both stopped working! How does this happen?

Well, I still don’t know why it happened but, thanks to a friend on the GTOUK website, I’ve fixed it.
A bit like doing a hard reboot on a hanging PC. Disconnect the battery for a while (an hour in my case), reconnect and everything works properly again!

Just maybe, this problem and its solution might be of help to owners of other cars with sensitive electronics.
