Video compression – help needed

May 20, 2006

My son complained bitterly at the size of the video file of Sue's Gupi wandering around (about 20Mb for about 45 sec).

If anyone has any hints on how to produce a more compact form, more suited to downloading and viewing online, I'd be glad to hear from you.

[edit] I think I've cracked it to some extent by converting it to streaming real media; down to less than 1Mb! Somebody please try it and feedback.

Have to tried importing it into windows movie maker (comes standard in XP), putting the entire movie as it is into the timeline, and clicking save movie file. You get a load of options of how to save the file, you can make it smaller (dimensions) or change the bit rate etc…
If that has helped at all or you need a bit more help, drop me an e-mail at Just incase i forget to check back here to see the results.

    Thanks for that, Tom.

I imported the mpeg into that program but it played with sound and no video!

Then the option of save to the web was greyed out.

    Any more ideas, anyone?
