Change to rules of war urged

"BRITISH Defence Secretary John Reid has called for changes to the international rules of warfare to counter the threat from modern-day terrorism.

Mr Reid said today that the legal grounds for intervening to prevent genocide or internal repression and mounting pre-emptive strikes were inadequate."

Fortunately, he has done and said these things in a diplomatic manner that representatives of some other Western Countries might do well to emulate. I just hope that rivalries and prejudice do not stand in the way of updating our approach to threats which have changed beyond the imaginations of those who drew up our rules 50 years ago.
